In a matter of moments, the city of Huntington became Marvelous.

Among a flood of talented recruits set to join the Herd next season, Marshall has landed its newest lockdown cornerback—MTSU transfer Marvae Myers. A highly sought-after prospect, Myers possesses all the traits you’d want in a starting CB: skill, confidence, and the ability to shut down opposing offenses. Next season is shaping up to be a Marvelous one indeed.

I had the chance to sit down with Marvae, and he was more than excited to introduce himself to the Marshall community. Here’s how our conversation went.

  1. Tell me about your upbringing. Where did you live growing up, and who did you live with? Did you always play sports growing up? And who were some major influences in your life?

“I grew up in West Orlando, Florida in a home with 4 Brothers and 1 Sister. Sports runs in my family so I’ve been playing since Flag Football at the age of 4. Major influences in my life had to be my older brother Mark Myers Jr who I watched get a shot in the NFL from a NAIA school. Also, my Dad for his unbelievable work ethic getting up at 4 am and working til the late in the afternoon my entire life. And my Uncle, Lee Jr, who was killed when I was high school which inspired me make a vow to make it out of my environment. I wouldn’t be this far without my Lord and savior Jesus Christ who had the biggest impact on my life and still does today.”

  1.  How was your high school career? Did you have any notable accomplishments and achievements?

”I had an amazing high school career, First team all metro, Top 25 in my city that is full of players that are currently in the NFL like Jalen Carter, (Super bowl Champ for Eagles). I got the program record for the Longest Interception Touchdown 99 yards and I was the 81st ranked athlete in the country for playing WR and DB my final year.”

ree
  1. What brought you to MTSU? How did you like it there? And ultimately what drove you to the decision to leave?

“I ended up at MTSU due to a falling out with Louisville the night before signing day.  I made a 24 hour decision based off connections I had to MTSU. I loved my time at MTSU but in time we grow apart from things we love. I’ll cherish and keep the relationships made there forever!”

ree
  1. What compelled you to come to Marshall? What other schools were in the mix during your recruitment? What stood out to make you want to be apart of the Herd?

“The hospitality and the culture of the program. Obviously winning the conference last year played a big part in my consideration but once I set my foot on campus, the family vibes were immaculate. I knew immediately it would be home. I had schools like Louisville, JMU, Indiana, ECU, Hawaii and other schools in the mix but no serious interest was really expressed like it was here at Marshall.”

  1. Is there any hobbies, or activities you enjoy outside of football? Is there any NIL opportunities that you would like for Herd fans to know about you having?

“I love reading comics, watching anime, cooking, volunteering, and public speaking! I’m learning a few instruments as well (piano/guitar). I currently have NIL deal with a jewelry company names Koolinx, owned by a Ex-NFL player Jovante Moffat who I am close to. I would love to partner with anyone willing to extended an offer. You’ll be getting someone who’s full of life, a great person, and has respect with a great following/influence behind him.”

  1. Is there anything Herd fans can do to help your transition to Huntington? Any particular foods you like? Any suggestions you’d like for us to give? And is there anything we the fans can do to help you while you’re here?

“Any opportunities to help in the community or to just build relationships please reach out! I love soul and hispanic food. All I can ask from the fans is to ride for us with everything they’ve got and we will do the same. I want to be a familiar face in this city so any pop ups, service opportunities or anything please reach out to me personally I will respond! Thank you!”

There’s no doubt Huntington is in for a treat come Saturdays this fall. Coach Gibson has quickly assembled a roster full of hungry, determined young men ready to compete at the highest level. And with each passing day, it’s becoming clear—this isn’t a rebuild, it’s a reload.

I, for one, can’t wait to see Myers and the entire Herd take the field and make their mark this season.

Go Herd!

Headset out…
