Marshall fans—remember the name Boogie Trotter. A transfer with a nose for the football and a passion rooted deep in family, Boogie is set to bring intensity, leadership, and big-time playmaking to the Herd this season. We sat down with Boogie to talk about his journey, his goals, and why putting on the green and white means more than just playing football.
⸻
Q: How did you get started in football, and who helped shape your passion for the game?

Boogie: I started playing football when I was just 4 years old. My mom got me in early because I’d always be crying at my big brothers’ practices—trying to jump in and play. Once I put on pads in little league, I knew this was it. Football gave me a place where I could truly be myself, and I fell in love with the game.

I’ve had a lot of people who helped me along the way, but some major ones stand out. My uncle Yogie—he’s the one that doesn’t care about my highlights. After every game, he’s calling to talk about the slip-ups. That keeps me humble. My mom and granddaddy, they’ve supported me no matter what. My father also played a major part he took weight off my shoulders through my career making sure I could just focus on ball. And my siblings, nieces, and nephews—they believe in me so much. They think I’m the best in the world. I want to be a light for them and show them it’s possible.
⸻
Q: What has your college football journey been like, and what led you to Marshall?

Boogie: It’s been a steady climb. Coming in as a true freshman, the speed of the game and learning all the defensive schemes—it was a challenge. But my time at Tennessee State, especially under Coach McNutt, really shaped me. He taught me the details, and that’s when I started making real plays.

As for Marshall—it just felt right. My old teammate Monroe Beard told me how close-knit it was here. Then I visited and saw green everywhere. I looked at my mom and said, “Yeah, this is the place.” Meeting Coach Morrison, Coach Holley, and Coach Gibson confirmed it. They cared about me as a person—not just as an athlete.
⸻
Q: With all the new faces on the team this year, what’s the energy like heading into the season?

Boogie: Even though a lot of us are new, we came in knowing the standard. This is a championship program, and nobody here is taking that lightly. From day one, we’ve been locked in and grinding.
Our defense? Fast and physical—we’re coming after teams. Our offense? A jack of all trades. We’ve got explosive backs, athletic quarterbacks, and shifty wideouts who can take the top off at any time. It’s going to be exciting to watch.
⸻
Q: How would you describe your playing style, and are there any players you model your game after?

Boogie: I’d say I’m a finesse player—but most people call me a ballhawk. Somehow, I always end up around the ball. Whether it’s a fumble or a pick, I just have that sense. My favorite player is Tyrann Mathieu—the Honey Badger. My trainers say I play like him, just constantly being a problem on the field. I also watch Kenny Moore a lot. Our patience and playmaking styles are really similar.
This season, Herd fans can expect one thing: I’m a gamer. I said that during the spring game, and I’m standing by it. More big plays are coming—every Saturday.
⸻
Q: What do you like to do outside of football? Any hobbies or hidden talents?

Boogie: I’m getting back into my YouTube soon—I love entertaining and goofing around on stream. I’m also big into gaming and love playing basketball with my guys. I try to keep things fun and relaxed when I’m not grinding.
⸻
Q: Do you have any NIL opportunities fans can support?

Boogie: Yeah! My jersey is about to drop soon. I expect to see a lot of #1s in the stands this season. When I’m out there putting on a show, I want to see Herd Nation rocking with me.
⸻
Q: Final thoughts—how can Herd fans support you and the team this year?

Boogie: Simple—show up. We need y’all in the stands every game. This year is going to be special, and we feed off the energy from Huntington. We play for this city, and we want to make y’all proud every single Saturday.
As Marshall Football kicks off a new chapter, Boogie Trotter isn’t just a name to remember—he’s a player to watch. With his relentless drive, natural instinct for the ball, and deep-rooted motivation fueled by family, Boogie has all the tools to become a game-changer in the Herd’s secondary.
Whether he’s snagging interceptions, breaking up passes, or hyping up the sideline, you can expect No. 1 to be at the heart of the action. Herd Nation, don’t blink—you might miss something special.
Go Herd!
